CROWN FIRECOACH PUMPER

FRONT 2.5" HOSEWELL RESTORATION

One of the few Crown Firecoach pumpers to have a front 2.5" discharge.  I was rather very curious as two why the pumper came with a front 2.5" discharge and pondered this for quite some time.  One of my first thoughts, was it had to of been for some type of commercial building hazard or for a FDC/Sprinkler System Connection.

I received a batch of pictures from FF/PM Ernie Moreno from the Monrovia Fire Department in 2009.  I saw some pictures of when the pumper did not have a front 2.5" Discharge and came to realize this discharge did not come from the factory, but was a later modification.  The best as to I can tell, was the discharge was added some time in 1968-1970.  This is only because of the dates on the back of the pictures I have.   I had an option during the restoration of the paint and body work to get rid of the front 2.5" discharge.  I decided to keep the front 2.5" discharge since it was very unique.

After reviewing the pictures that Ernie provided us and talking to several retired Monrovia Firefighters, the purpose of the front 2.5" discharge was for:  four-way hydrant valve operations.
