I've chose to install Bendix king mobile radio's in my apparatus, party due to the fact I've grew up with Bendix King portable hand held radios and started my early career with Bendix King mobile radio's. I'm familiar with them and I can program certain Bendix King radio's. As of now all wideband radios have to be narrowbanded in January of 2013. The first model of Bendix King radio's I have are LMH mobiles. They can be easily bought on Ebay at a very low price. However, these radio's cannot be narrowbanded. I plan on removing these radio's in January of 2013 and turn them into scanners for work and at home. The next radio that can be bought off of Ebay at a good price is the Bendix King EMH mobile. This radio can be narrowbanded and I plan on switching to this radio in January of 2013. As of now the following Crown units have the following radio's:
F1246 - Bendix King EMH Mobile - Bendix King Handheld EPH 5101A
F1568 - Bendix King LMH Mobile - Bendix King Handheld EPH 5101A
F1689 - Bendix King EMH Mobile - Bendix King Handheld EPH 5101A
F1787 - Bendix king LMH Mobile - Bendix King Handheld EPH 5101A
I've also chose to go with Bendix King Handheld radio's for the operator and passenger. The Bendix King radio I chose is now obsolete in the fire service, just due to the limitations of the number of channels. The EPH radio's can be narrowbanded. The EPH radio's can also be easily bought off of Ebay as well. Attached here is a link to Paul Daheln's MS word document and the BK portable radio's he sells. If you plan on buying your own portables, you can buy the programming cable and software to program the radio's yourself.
